I went to a restaurant in Salem the other night. A group of people (four or five) were right behind me. I opened the door and held it open so they could enter first (being the southern gentleman that I am). Guess what? Not a single thank you was uttered from any of their carpetbagging mouths.
This happens a lot around these parts. Is it just Oregon or do other places have the same aggravation?

Oregonians are some of the friendliest people, if you know them. They will buy you lunch, offer you a place to stay, watch your pet and water your lawn when you are on vacation. They'll even drive you to the airport. But if you are walking along a path at Minto Brown Park and an Oregonian is walking toward you, they will look away as if you weren't there. No eye contact, no hello. It's one of the first things I noticed when I moved here.
That's good to hear, Salem Man. I'm trying not to give into the "I'm in my own world" attitude that a number of folks here have and instead I'll try to spread the love.
I'm from So Cal originally - we moved to Salem 12 years ago. I find Oregonians to be quite kind and friendly. I am constantly amazed that people say hello to each other and smile when passing on the street. Those people that didn't say thank you were probably transplants from Calif! ha ha! You keep being a fine Southern Gentleman. Many of us appreciate it and will be more than happy to say Thank you!
